Meet Nico

Nico is a musician, composer, and educator passionate about food and sharing it with guests. Like many Argentinians, he comes from a family of Italian immigrants to whom food is a central part of life. Nico's favorite dish is pasta, specifically ravioli. He learned to cook with his mother and grandmother, preparing Sunday lunches for the whole family. In Argentina, eating pasta for Sunday lunch is as important a tradition as having asado, and it's always a group activity. With Nico, you will not only learn how to make pasta but also its cultural significance - ask Nico why gnocchi is eaten on the 29th of the month! Nico lives in a modest home in the Chacarita neighborhood with his girlfriend Pilar who may join you when she is home. He looks forward to sharing the food and food traditions of Argentina with guests and is dedicated to ensuring guests have a memorable experience.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

Cooking experience: (2-6 guests) Meet your host Nico at his modest home in Chacarita - a vibrant and emerging food district of Buenos Aires with an old-school Buenos Aires feel. Begin your hands-on Buenos Aires Italian cooking class with a glass of Argentinian red wine in Nico's small kitchen. During your cooking lesson, you will learn to make a starter and pasta with two types of fillings. You might learn to make ravioli filled with homemade ricotta and basil with lemon zest in a sage butter and braised meat with citrus in a classic tomato sauce or other types of pasta such as tonarelli alla carbonara, gnudi, cavatelli or gnocchi. After cooking, enjoy your meal at the dining table or on the terrace, weather permitting. Your meal includes two glasses of wine and concludes with a homemade dessert. If you choose the alcohol add-on, Nico offers a premium bottle of wine.

Notes: Nico hosts lunch experiences on weekends only as he works during the week. If you choose the alcohol add-on, Nico offers a premium bottle of Argentinian wine.

PERSONALLY VETTED REVIEW

On Saturday we went to Nico and Pilar's home and we had an amazing time! The neighborhood is one of the latest cool places in Buenos Aires city. There are a lot of very cool restaurants and bars, and it's the place where young people are moving to, looking for less expensive accommodation that is also well connected to public transport. The building where they live is really interesting - 1920's construction with 40 small houses for families, each with their own terrace. Nico and Pilar were very welcoming and we had a really nice conversation during our experience. The house is cool - very Buenos Aires with lots of colors and stuff but clean. The class was easy to follow and the ingredients can be easily found. The food tasted great! It may not be fancy but going to this young couple's home with homey vibes gives you a chance to experience a taste of real Argentinian Italian cuisine and hospitality.
