From the moment we walked in, our host made us feel like old friends. We started the day perfectly with a glass of ouzo and a platter of the most delicious olives, creamy Graviera cheese, and crunchy barley rusks. It was the ideal way to settle in and get to know the other "cooks" for the day. The 2-hour hands-on class flew by. Our host’s passion for her family's recipes was contagious. She didn’t just teach us how to cook; she taught us why, sharing little tips and secrets from her grandmother’s kitchen that you simply wouldn't find in a cookbook. We learned to make two traditional dishes from scratch, and the feeling of watching the ingredients come together under her expert guidance was incredibly satisfying. The absolute highlight, however, was sitting down to enjoy the feast we had prepared. The flavors were out of this world—fresh, vibrant, and comforting all at once. It was, hands down, the most authentic and delicious meal we had during our entire stay in Athens. I left this experience not only with a full stomach and a smile on my face, but also with the confidence and new skills to recreate these incredible dishes at home. Antonia shared her home and her food with us in a delightful visit. We sat on her patio, walked through her garden, and learned about the plants she and her family have nurtured there for generations. She had done a lot of the prep work but guided us through putting together stuffed green peppers and tomatoes, a cucumber salad, and tzatziki sauce. She had prepared an appetizer plate of olives and cheeses which she served with wine. For dessert she’d made a delicious orange cake. The real treat though were her delightful stories about her, her parents, and grandparents. Her easy personality and welcoming attitude made us feel at home from the very beginning. What a treat!

Oh my God! This was by far the most fun I have had in Athens. Christina taught my husband and I (and 3 others in our group) how to prepare authentic Greek phyllo dough from scratch in her kitchen. She will teach you to make the ubiquitous flaky Greek dough - starting with flour and water! - and together you will prepare a traditional pie. She will teach you, step by step, how to make the pie filling using seasonal ingredients like wild spinach and other greens and a variety of fresh cheeses (you might mix the filling in the sink since it is her biggest receptacle!). You mix the dough, learn to roll it into paper-thin sheets on her dining table, and layer the pie with the filling. She will show you how to carefully lay the delicate sheets of phyllo in the pan, which results in a light, crispy pie.

This was the highlight of our trip to Greece! Katerina welcomed us into her home like we were family. She showed us how to prepare several traditional Grecian dishes that were just amazing. As a travel advisor, I have had many incredible experiences throughout our beautiful world and this private cooking class is among the most memorable.

We went to 4 different locations that we never would have found on our own. The food was varied, delicious, and culturally interesting. We even went back to one place the next day.
