Meet Brisa

A warm and worldly soul, Brisa will introduce you to traditional Peruvian gastronomy. Brisa (her name means 'breeze') is a traveler and nature-lover and has worked as a professional chef, interior designer, photographer, and educator and now puts her culinary knowledge and passion for wellness to work by teaching about Peruvian food and organizing yoga and mindfulness retreats. She is well-versed in Peru's vast range of culinary traditions and will teach you about a variety of ingredients from the coast, the Andes, and amazon. Her cooking is modern and takes influences from three of Peru's best known culinary styles: criolla ('creole', home-style Peruvian food which is a mix of Spanish, indigenous and African cooking), nikkei (Japanese-Peruvian), and chifa (Chinese-Peruvian).

Brisa hosts at her mother's beautiful, art-filled apartment in Barranco which boasts a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean. She can tailor the menu to a wide range of dietary needs including vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten-free. Be sure to tell her if you have any special requests.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (2-6 guests) Join Brisa for a meal of modern Peruvian dishes, cooked with traditional ingredients and techniques that showcase the essence of Peruvian gastronomy. You might taste dishes like ceviche (fresh fish cured in citrus sauce), steamed fish in Amazonian leaves called bijao, and desserts like a lúcuma fruit mousse and fresh cacao straight from the pod.

Cooking experience: (2-6 guests) Brisa will introduce her unique take on Peruvian cuisine in your cooking lesson. Brisa can offer either a demonstration or a hands-on cooking class, so just let her know your preference. She will show you how to prepare several dishes that showcase local, seasonal Peruvian ingredients. You will cook together for about an hour before you sit down to enjoy the meal.

Market visit: (2-6 guests) Meet Brisa near the local market in Miraflores where she will introduce you to seasonal Peruvian ingredients. Brisa will teach you about the regional variations in Peruvian cuisine and the history behind the country's diverse cooking. If you have selected a meal or cooking experience, return to Brisa's home after your tour for a delicious Peruvian meal.

PERSONALLY VETTED REVIEW
A Traveling Spoon ambassador visited this host. Here is their personal review.

Everything was excellent. We had a lovely time at Brisa’s house. She is friendly, worldly person and has lived in Spain, Lebanon, and elsewhere. She is very into mindfulness and meditation, and she has a bit of that personality. Cooking and hosting seems to be a passion for her. Her apartment was lovely, with a great view of the ocean and lots of Peruvian art all over the walls. We tasted many Peruvian delicacies, including artichokes, chicha (corn drink), seafood, ceviche, fresh cacao (sweet beans in a papaya shaped fruit). I appreciated the Japanese-Peruvian dish as well.

Brisa is a professional chef who entertains in the home of her mother, a well-known Peruvian potter. She is very plugged in to the food scene in Peru, and a warm and gracious hostess. She picked us up in our Miraflores location, which made things easy, and gave us a short tour of Barranco (a suburb of Lima) on our way to the home. Her per person price may seem a bit high, but it is reasonable once you include transportation, standard taxes, tips, alcohol, and other standard additions, plus consider the location.
