Meet Shveta

Shveta, a former primary school teacher and passionate home cook, runs a charming homestay in a quiet suburb of Jaipur. She honed her culinary skills under the guidance of her mother, mastering the rich flavors of traditional Indian cuisine. Her husband, Kul, a retired oil company executive, complements Shveta’s hospitality with his warm and engaging presence. Together, as avid world travelers, they create an unforgettable experience for their guests—Shveta delights with her cooking, while Kul entertains with stories and conversation.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (1-8 guests) Your private, in-home dining experience begins with Shveta and Kul warmly welcoming you into their contemporary home, set to the soothing sounds of Indian music. Enjoy a refreshing welcome drink of nimbu pani or jal jeera before sitting down to a feast featuring aloo tikki, pakoras, chicken curry, rajma, seasonal vegetables, dal, roti, jeera rice, and dessert. Some dishes may even include organic vegetables grown on Shveta’s rooftop, adding a personal touch to this delightful culinary journey.

Cooking experience: (1-8 guests) Join Shveta in her Jaipur kitchen for a private cooking class where you'll learn to craft a traditional North Indian meal. Under her expert guidance, you’ll prepare 3-5 authentic dishes like aloo gobhi (spiced cauliflower and potatoes), chicken curry, daal, and Indian bread. After the hands-on experience, sit down with Shveta and Kul to savor the delicious meal you’ve created together, making this a truly immersive and unforgettable culinary journey.

Notes: Shveta and Kul run a homestay from their home, so you may encounter other guests in the dining room during your meal. However, your Traveling Spoon cooking experience with Shveta will remain a private and personalized session, ensuring an intimate and immersive culinary adventure.

We had a lovely evening in the home of Shveta and her husband. The welcome was warm and we were made to feel very comfortable. The cooking class was terrific. We learned to make several dishes and came home with recipes to try to recreate them at home. Would highly recommend this event!

Me and my girlfriend had a great experience at Shveta’s home where she thought us how to make northern Indian dishes. Can’t wait to put my new skills at practice. Mostly excited about making Roti!

This was a half day cooking activity including a walk through the local stores to see all types of cooking utensils and the raw ingredients that we would use in our cookery class. Arriving at Shalini’s house we were met by members of her family who would assist her. The space available was small but adequate. Only maximum of 8 person’s fit into her kitchen area in 2 groups of 4.Great fun preparing the vegetables we had just bought in the market. Amazing that we prepared a lovely vegetarian lunch for 8 people and made our own chapatis. Refreshments provided included bottled water, masala tea or black or green tea. Toilet facilities available. Overall a pleasant 4 hour experience.

"I had such a fun evening with Shveta, talking and cooking and eating with her and her nice husband in their lovely home. It was exactly the type of experience I craved after a week of palaces and temples....a visit with local people who are warm, welcoming and great to talk with. Shveta had her recipes all typed up for me and I can't wait to get cooking today after a trip to our Indian grocer, with memories of incredible and delicious India wafting through my house."
