Meet Sophia

Sophia and her family moved to the countryside of Kakheti 10 years ago, to a beautiful wine region. There they started an artisan cheese factory to complement the wines of the region and enjoy a peaceful lifestyle. Sophia taught herself how to cook because she loved doing it. It was a way to pass the time, be creative, and do something she could get lost in. She enjoyed the process so much, that she would practice making different dishes and trying to perfect them. Cooking is a big passion for her. In 2017, she and her daughter even won the TV show ‘My Kitchen Rules, Georgia’! Now her husband, Leo, and she would like to share their knowledge in culinary arts and traditions with travelers visiting Georgia.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (1-12 guests) Sophia’s home is in a beautiful, peaceful location with stunning views of the mountains, a 10 minute drive from the center of Telavi. The neighborhood is a quiet, rural village surrounded by nature and lots of greenery. Her home also situated on an open farm area with lots of space for her cat, dogs, chickens and ducks to freely walk around.

You shall start the experience with a small tour of the farm. Briefly understanding how they produce cheese and getting to see the different herbs, fruits and vegetables they grow on the farm. Then. while you sit at the kitchen counter eating cheese and sipping on wine, watch Sophia add some finishing touches to the meal you will later share together.

Sophia mostly serves Georgian dishes and some her own creations using fresh, local and seasonal ingredients. She also would like to share a farm to table kind of experience, using produce she is currently growing on their farm. A few dishes that you might try are a cheese board of their homemade assorted artisan cheese along with homemade wine, fresh salad with walnuts and roasted potatoes, mtsvadi (Georgian barbecue of grilled lamb or chicken) and chvishtari (corn bread with cheese). You shall end your meal with a homemade cheese based dessert.

Notes: Sophia can offer vegetarian and gluten free meals on request. Please note that glass of homemade wine is included in the price of the experience.

PERSONALLY VETTED REVIEW
A Traveling Spoon ambassador visited this host. Here is their personal review.

Our experience at Sophia's was amazing!! We honestly have nothing but great things to say about our time with her, from start to finish. Sophia and her husband, Leo, are very warm and hospitable, and we immediately felt ourselves to be among friends. So at home (we stayed all day!), and we had great conversation with Sophia. It's a really peaceful and beautiful environment as well. Everything we ate was so fresh and delicious. Sophia and Leo's homemade cheeses are out of this world—you can't find anything like this in the rest of Georgia. It's clear that every dish prepared is made with love and passion. This was truly an incredible experience that we would recommend to anyone and everyone, and we cannot wait to visit Sophia again in the future! Everything was amazing, we didn't want to leave!
