Meet Nanditha

After finishing her graduate studies in India, Nanditha and her family moved back to Colombo where worked for 8 years at The Cinnamon Grand hotel before starting Nandis Milk Toffee. Her husband is a hotelier as well (that is how they met!) and they excel at taking care of guests. Nanditha is a successful entrepreneur (running her home based confectionery company for 15 years now!), home baker and mother of two. She loves to cook for friends and family and is known for her crab curry and home-style Sri Lankan meals. As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree - Nanditha’s daughter is passionate about baking as well and will be part of this experience. The whole family loves animals and they have two very friendly terriers - Poochi and her female puppy Patiya. Nanditha has been cooking since she was 12 years old and ensures her family and friends are well fed!

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (2-6 guests) Nanditha lives with her husband, daughter and two dogs in a beautiful home in central Colombo 5. Nanditha is very creative - visible when you visit her home - tastefully decorated with family photos, art, and paintings, some of which are hers! Warm with welcoming smiles, Nanditha and her family are hospitable hosts. Nanditha’s friends and family have often appreciated her cooking which led her to share her passion with those who want to learn more about Sri Lankan cuisine.

Sri Lankan crab curry is a delicacy and when made with the right balance of spices, coconut milk, moringa leaves, garlic, onion, ginger and lemon – it becomes a very special, memorable meal! This is what you can expect during a meal with Nanditha who personally buys crabs from her favorite vendor at the fish market. Over the years her crab curry has become Nanditha’s signature dish and she hosts a crab feast at least once every few weeks for friends and family. You will start your experience with an introduction to Sri Lankan home cooking and food traditions, as you sip on your welcome drink and snack on baked garlic and cassava chips. You will then head to the dining table to enjoy some delicious Sri Lankan crab curry that is eaten with roast bread, string hoppers, dhal curry (lentils) and red coconut sambol. You cannot leave without tasting Nanditha’s famed milk toffees, and a special dessert baked by her daughter. End your experience with some refreshing Sri Lankan ginger tea.

Cooking experience: (2-6 guests) Learn to cook Nanditha’s signature Sri Lankan crab curry and red coconut sambol during your two-hour cooking class. Apart from cooking, Nanditha is also passionate about gardening and has a roof top garden. Before you start your cooking class, Nanditha will take you on a small tour of her garden and show you all her organic greens. She grows herbs, chilies, curry leaves, vegetables. Here you will get to pick a few moringa leaves for your crab curry preparation!

Notes: BYOB: travelers are welcome to bring their own alcohol.
