Chiara’s passion for cooking began as a young girl when she cooked with her grandmothers, both excellent cooks. She added to her culinary repertoire over time by working with a friend who owned a restaurant, and went on to fulfill her grandmothers’ dream of opening a restaurant! She is eager to showcase local produce and even has her own beehive, vegetable garden, and fruit trees, and grows ancient grain that she uses to make homemade bread. As much as possible, Chiara uses products from her farm. She enjoys using modern technology to experiment with new techniques of cooking and makes creative dishes using a sous vide machine and special freezer. Food allows Chiara to connect with her grandmothers – through cooking they shared a private vocabulary of care, love and passion. She loves cooking with herbs and wild flowers that she picks because she wants to share the beautiful aromas of her region in her food.
Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.
In-home meal: (2-25 guests) Meet your host Chiara at her family home, a traditional, 15th century stone farm estate that she restored and converted into a B&B. Enjoy a refreshing drink and hear the sounds of Italian music from the 20s before your host invites you to a tour of the ancient property and estate, during which you might pick a few herbs and flowers for your meal. You will then join Chiara at her dining table to enjoy a creative, regional Bolognese meal. Your meal will include an appetizer, pasta, vegetable side and dessert. Your menu may include dishes such as a crescentine (a typical fried bread only made in Emilia Romagna) or tigelle (fire-roasted bread) with parmeggiano reggiano or mortadella, tagliatelle with prosciutto di Parma and lemon zest or gnocchi with ragu, and a seasonal side vegetable like mangold (regional greens) cooked in olive oil and garlic. Your meal will conclude with a dessert of torta di castagne (chestnut cake) with zabaione (liqueur-flavored cream) or homemade ice-cream made from fresh, seasonal fruit.
Cooking experience: (2-6 guests) Experience the warmth of Italian family cooking in this pasta class at a charming 15th-century stone farm estate in rural Bologna. During your Bologna cooking class learn to make authentic pasta from scratch in a cozy, traditional setting. Join your host Chiara at her professional, stainless steel kitchen to learn to cook a creatively-inspired regional Italian meal from Monte San Pietro recipes, passed down from her grandmother. Inspired by innovation in the cooking world, she is keen on assembling dishes with regional ingredients but changing their form to make them more exciting. Instead of the traditional peas and pasta dish, Chiara might make a cream of peas that is drizzled over her pasta. Your hands-on cooking will last about two hours. Learn to cook three dishes from scratch during your cooking experience; a pasta such as tagliatelle with prosciutto di Parma and lemon zest, a seasonal vegetable side such as cavolo nero from the garden with garlic and olive oil or a fennel and root vegetable gratinato, and a bread made from ancient wheat or dessert. Enjoy learning about creative ways to recreate regional Bolognese dishes before you sit down at the table to share the meal you helped prepare with Chiara. Perfect for families and food lovers!
Notes:
Please note that all culinary experiences are available only from Wednesday to Sunday
Please meet Chiara directly at her home, if you are driving. If you decide to take public transportation (bus #83), let Chiara know at least 3 days in advance and she will plan to pick you up from the bus station and drop you off after. Also, Chiara can arrange to pick you up from the city center of Bologna, by a professional driver (price not included and to be paid directly to the taxi company upon meeting).

Wow!!! This experience is one that we will remember for a very long time! Chiara is such a warm and welcoming host, who patiently guides you through each dish step by step along with her assistant Roberta. We made focaccia and tagliatelle with leeks that we picked from Chiaras vegetable garden and pumpkin. Everything is fresh and organic and Chiara is so incredibly proud of her home and food as she should be! I cannot recommend booking this experience enough, it is a real taste of true Italy/ Bologna…. And we were so very grateful that we were lucky enough to experience it. Chiara and Roberta were incredibly talented chefs and Chiara is the most wonderful host.- Leah_M December 15, 2024
Chiara was a wonderful host, we loved taking her cooking class at her beautiful home in San Pietro. The view from her house was amazing!!!!! She has an adorable dog called India who came with us as we picked veggies from her garden.- Jessica April 26, 2023
Chiara has gone to such extent to preserve her family’s home and history including their traditional food & wine. Would love to stay in the B&B next time. Great to connect with others, while sharing amazing food!- Angelica June 30, 2022
This was a birthday present for my 87 year old mother, who is already an excellent cook. Chiara was so lovely and kind. We truly had a magical day. I would highly recommend doing this. She can help you with transportation.- Victoria May 16, 2022
If you want to get outside the chaos of the city and see Bologna in a whole new way, this is for you! Chiara was a wonderful host! The tour and history of her family grounds, the cooking experience, and overall best pasta we had in Italy was only the start of this experience. My husband and I were in Italy for our honeymoon and this experience was a great way to slow down during our trip before departing to our next city. The bread, pasta, dessert and wine we're EXCELLENT! We can't say enough good things about Chiara and this entire experience!- Marie_S August 16, 2021
The day with Chiara on her restored family farm and charming home and B and B was an experience beyond expectations. We picked foods from the garden and fruit trees - real farm- to-table - that we enjoyed for lunch. We first relaxed and drank delicious flavored water she made, rolled pasta, and used her grandma’s recipes for a delicious meal, which we ate under the trees. We learned new “tricks”, laughed, and relaxed. Chiara picked us up at the bus stop and drove us through the winding country roads to her hillside farm. The day was one to always remember from our trip to Bologna.- bonniel August 11, 2021
Fantastic experience and highly recommended! We made wonderful food and spending the night in the B&B really topped the day off! Chiara was wonderful and I felt very at home at Casa Vallona.- rozanne July 13, 2020
Before an amazing experience in Chiara's kitchen, she shared the history of her property as we toured her home showing us where she grows many of the ingredients she uses in her recipes. Once in the kitchen she taught techniques learned from her grandmother that resulted in the most amazing lunch. Return we must!- Topekatraveler6828 November 22, 2019
I couldn't recommend this more. We had such a nice day out of the city, just eating and chatting around Chiara's historic country home- PatrickBowen November 10, 2019
A wonderful experience. As soon as we met Chaira we felt welcome & at home. We enjoyed the stories of the history of her family's home & learning to make gnocchi with ragu was a fun & a rewarding experience. Sharing our food & wine with our teachers, Chiara, Franca, & Georgia was extra special. It was a highlight of our trip.- camdej September 28, 2019
My wife and I felt that we had a true Italian experience. We stayed in Bologna and it was an easy bus trip away where Chiara picked us up and drove us to her house. The tour of the property was stunning. We then cooked a delicious three course meal with ingredients fresh from her garden! Chiara was super nice and energetic. She also has a cute dog named India! We met Chiara at 10:30 when she picked us up and ended up back at our hotel around 4:00. So plan to spend a good portion of your day there.- jhalliss2009 September 20, 2019
Chiara, her amazing home, the food, quality of produce and the land... plus her dog India, and friend Livia, all made my last day in Bologna incredible. I felt like I was cooking and eating lunch with some great girlfriends. I’m so glad I booked with Chiara at her agriturismo instead of somewhere in the city. You can stay at her home too in monte San pietro. I will next time...- josiePerth July 23, 2019
I am so grateful I chose this cooking class over the other classes held within Bologna. I realized this was the right choice as I drove past the massive line of cars stuck in traffic trying to get into the city, and then realized what a relief it was to not have to deal with parking either! The drive to this farm kitchen was breathtaking and everything I could have hoped for. We were greeted with a huge smile by Chiara, an absolutely lovely person, who then gave us a tour of her wonderful property. We learned about her family's unique history while we picked the food we'd be cooking from her garden. After a quick tour of her land and farm, we began to make some of the most authentic, delicious, homemade food I've ever had. Her Godmother was there helping her as well, which gave the whole experience more of that family essence I was hoping to find. The ingredients were fresh, natural and healthy. The lunch we prepared was perfect, and if I'm ever in this area again, I'll be sure to stop by for another cooking lesson! Thank you for your hospitality, and the lessons learned!-Pete- peterchic July 10, 2019
Chiara was a true delight! She made us feel welcome from the first moment, took her time showing us around her beautiful property, and helped us make the most delicious meal. I definitely recommend this experience!- Norman J July 05, 2019
Back to basics. This week, 4 days in our vacation and staying in Bologna we had our cooking class with Chiara. Picture driving from a city into rural mountain area and you go generations back in time. Chiara hosted us on their family house which was in the family for many generations. This was the first time we made pasta and we made right away tortellini. The teaching and the background from family generations on history and cooking made a huge impression on us. No fancy cooking class from a chef but going back to basics with grand mothers experience. After cooking our own meal sitting outside and having dinner, talking about family, culture and history is how family dinners should be, enjoying a good meal over good talks.- Hornets1052 June 27, 2019
So grateful to stay at Chiara's beautiful estate home. It's a short drive from Bologna and an escape into the natural beauty of Italy. Highly recommend the cooking experience as well. Chiara is a wonderful cook, avid gardener and warm, gracious host. She also has a deep passion to share Italian culture and cuisine with visitors and it shows in the way she has revitalized this centuries-old property!- claudiagho June 12, 2019
Imported into another world. What an amazing experience this was. Chiara was an amazing host and cook. We felt like good friends at the end of the experience. The views from her estate is STUNNING and BEAUTIFUL. We had the opportunity to harvest vegetables from her garden, walk the estate grounds and cook with her beautiful Italian grandma. We had our toddler with us and he had such an amazing time it was perfect for our family. I would highly recommend it as it was one of the key highlights of our trip! Chiara, thank you for creating such an authentic and story filled environment. The meticulous restoration of your family home envelops us into a world that was just magical. Thank you for the heart and passion behind what you do. It was inspirational! Photos by Claudia Ho :)- Donna C June 11, 2019

Chiara made an excellent feast for us at her home and it surpassed our expectations! She walked us down to the garden, cut some supplies for dinner, and gave us a tour of the property where all of the ingredients for the dinner were harvested. The landscape is indescribable. You are in the middle of rolling green hills without other houses in sight; it is truly amazing. We had traditional breads and appetizers from the region. Chiara's adorable aunt, Franca, helped out with making Maltagliati that had fresh asparagus and zucchinis. We had DELICIOUS meatballs with spring peas. To round it out for dessert there was Paradise Cake. The food was amazing, but the experience you are getting is all about the location itself and Chiara's infectious personality. My only regret is not being able to stay there for longer.A word of advice: if you are more than 4 guests, I highly recommend renting your own car as the ride out there is pricey and requires you to be on a strict schedule. We wound up not making it out to the farm until much later than we would have liked and had to cut our time short because the driver had other commitments.- Casey G May 10, 2019
Imagine staying in a restored medieval farmhouse cooking traditional Italian food from grandma’s recipies. Now add ingredients like ancient grains grown in Chiara’s fields, honey from her hives, jam from her peaches and melons, seasonal herbs and veggies from her garden. This was our amazing experience cooking with Chiara all while drinking deliscious wine from her vineyard. Chiara shared her love of food and exceptional ingredients to create an unforgettable experience for my son and I in her families ancient and lovely home. I highly recommend Casa Vallona and look forward to my next visit! Seth- sethellner April 03, 2019
