Meet Chiara

Chiara has always loved to cook, ever since she was a child. When she was young she learned from her mother and grandmother, and then later from culinary school which she attended to further her cooking education and passion. A Roman native, Chiara specializes in traditional regional dishes and is keen on sharing her favorite family recipes. Chiara comes from a family that enjoys cooking together and can often be found in the kitchen rustling up a delicious meal with her children. Chiara is multi-lingual and speaks English, French and Italian, so if you are interested in an experience in another language please note this in your booking! She is excited to share her culture through food and offer an authentic cooking class in Rome.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (2-10 guests) You will be welcomed by Chiara into her beautiful home very close to the Colosseum, ideally situated to end your day with some delicious home-cooked food! Relax in her living room with a glass of prosecco or cedrata and an appetizer such as pizza romana with buffalo mozzarella, while Chiara gives you a brief introduction to Roman food and culinary traditions. Later, join Chiara at her dining table for your meal. Your menu will be seasonal and may include dishes such as a main of pasta pomodorini and crunchy guanciale (cured pork meat) or saltimbocca (a veal dish) and carciofi alla romana (Roman-style artichokes). Your meal will conclude with a dessert of tiramisù or chocolate cake or crostata (tart) or ice cream and fresh fruits. The meal experience last about 2 hours.

Cooking experience: (2-10 guests) In your Rome cooking class which is close to the Colosseum, join your host Chiara in her home kitchen and learn to make traditional Italian food. Your private hands-on Italian cooking class in Rome will last about 2 hours. You will be given printed recipes and Chiara will briefly introduce you to each dish before you start your cooking class. Learn how to make classic Italian dishes such as handmade pasta and tomato sauce or scaloppini (a meat dish) and tiramisu. After the class, move to the dining room to feast on your delicious Italian meal!

Market visit: (2-10 guests) Enjoy a guided tour of Testaccio market to discover local ingredients with a chef. Your market tour will start with a warm cup of cappuccino in a typical roman bar! After which you will explore the market with Chiara and visit all her favorite vendors. Please note that Chiara's car can seat a maximum of 4 people, so for larger groups you will walk back to Chiara's home after the market visit. It is a 14 minute walk uphill, from the market to Chiara's home. Your chef-led Italian market in Rome will last for about one hour.

Notes: 1-2 glasses of wine per person is included in the price of your Italian cooking class in Rome.

Chiara can offer a hands-on cooking class for groups up to six people. For larger groups, she offers more of a cooking demonstration instead of a hands-on class due to limited cooking space.

Languages spoken: English, French, Italian

Chiara was amazing! She made us feel so comfortable from the time we walked into her home till the time we left. She introduced us to newer foods that we had never experienced before. She was very friendly and down to earth. It was very easy to understand her and she gave us exact information about the food and incorporated that with history about Italy. Her pride for her country showed in her passion for traditional cooking. I am not a chef and Chiara was very patient and understanding while teaching us to cook. She taught us how to cook and prepare a three course meal and dessert. We were stuffed when I left! Overall I loved the experience with her and would definitely recommend her experience!

We had the most wonderful experience-- I would say the best organized activity we have ever done anywhere in the world-- with Chiara. We started our day with a typical Roman pastry and coffee at Pasticceria Linari before walking to the Testaccio Market where we visited several vendors procuring ingredients for our cooking lesson and learning a lot in the process. We stopped by the Michetti butcher shop to pick up meat for our lunch as well. Then we were off to Chiara's lovely home where we ate more delicious bread and cheeses than we should have (LOL) while learning how to make semolina orecchiette pasta from scratch. We also learned how to make a traditional tomato and garlic sauce, beef straccetti, and, for dessert, a chocolate sausage. While preparing the meal we enjoyed wonderful conversation and learned a ton about the right ingredients (which flour to use for pasta for example), produce (who knew Roman artichokes were so unique and prepared so differently than those we are used to at home), and pasta-making. At the end of our 2+ hours of instruction, we sat down for a beautiful and filling three course meal of the food we learned to prepare. Everything was delicious, clean and simple, and in more than sufficient portions. Our experience was tailored to our own specific needs (e.g. we don't drink alcohol) which was most appreciated. I would, without hesitation, strongly recommend experiencing life and cooking with Chiara!!!

Chiara and her daughter Chloe provided a lovely cultural and cooking experience. The food was amazing and the conversation and instruction was pleasant. Chiara was very mindful of my food allergy. Should we revisit Rome, we would be sure to include Chiara in our plans.

We had an amazing time with Chiara. She was incredibly gracious, and she was a wonderful teacher. She started the lesson by giving us a brief historical introduction to Roman cuisine. We cooked multiple types of pastas, while about local produce, ingredient selection and cooking techniques. She was flexible with the menu, and even served us a delicious apperitivo as we prepared our meal. The dinner was fabulous. Throughout dinner we talked about Roman food and it’s regional variations - and why this makes Italy centered on the culinary experience. It was a great way to end our trip, and one of our favorite evenings during our two weeks in Italy. We would highly recommend her! - Greg & Cristina
