What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

Cooking experience: (1-6 guests) For your Amsterdam cooking class, meet your host Fusina at her artsy canal house apartment with classic architectural elements like traditional Dutch beams on the ceiling. Join Fusina in her cozy kitchen to cook and flip pannenkoeken or pancakes, a simple but very typical Dutch meal. You can create a savory pancake with bacon (Dutch pancetta) as well as a sweet pancake with local apples. During your hands-on pancake class in Amsterdam you will learn to make a savory and sweet Dutch pancake from scratch. It will last about an hour and a half. After cooking, sit down with Fusina at her kitchen table to enjoy a basic but authentic Dutch meal of savory and sweet pancakes. Immerse yourself in local Dutch culture as Fusina shares stories about herself, her family and the Netherlands during this lovely Dutch culinary experience.

Notes: Fusina lives on a second floor (first floor in Europe) - there is a long and steep flight of stairs to get to her apartment which is typical Dutch. Please note 2 glasses of Dutch wine per person is included in the cost of the experience.

Fusina's pancake cooking class in Amsterdam is suitable for couples, family, beginners and children. A great experience for families traveling with children. Children will love mixing the batter and flipping pancakes!

A Traveling Spoon ambassador visited this host. Here is their personal review.

I had a lovely time learning how to make Dutch pancakes with Fusina! Fusina welcomed us to her beautiful and full of personality apartment located in the heart of Amsterdam canal districts. Fusina is extremely friendly and a great storyteller. It was great to hear about Dutch traditions, Dutch food and also Fusina’s personal impressive life story, most recently as a cook book author. The Dutch Pancakes were delicious and it was very fun to learn how to cook it. Fusina was very patient with my lack of flipping pancakes skills. All in all a great experience!

We had a great time at this class. The location was great, looking over the canal. We made apple and bacon pancakes. I even learned how to flip it without dropping the pancake. We enjoyed great local wine, fantastic local cheese, and of course delicious pancakes. I would definitely do this again!

Fusina was a gracious host who taught us to make both savory & sweet Dutch pancakes that we not only loved but will make at home.

This was an amazing experience! The host was very welcoming and the pancakes were delicious and easy to make.

Fusina was fabulous. Very personable and warm, we enjoyed every moment of the food tour. We toured her apartment by the famed skinny bridge, made authentic Dutch apple pancakes in her kitchen, and then went and tasted any number of Dutch treats (five different places, if memory serves)! Highly recommend!

Well worth the couple of hours we spent doing this whilst in Amsterdam. Fusina is so friendly and knowledgeable as we made (and ate!) pancakes and talked about life and culture in Amsterdam. Something quite different to walking around and doing the normal tourist things, but we've definitely taken away lovely memories.

Fusina is nice with good hospitality. If you are looking for a real cooking lesson than it is not the good place to be, but if you are looking for a very simple homemade dutch dinner, in a cosy ambient, while drinking good wine and sharing eachother life experiences than it is the case (at the cost at least double than how it could be).

We enjoyed our visit with Fusina, and especially the chance to learn from her about Dutch culture, food, and holiday traditions. We knew ahead of time that the class would be simple, as we were just making pancakes, but we had a good time making (and flipping) them and thought they made a delicious lunch. Fusina also provided some appetizers: herring with pickles and onion, Dutch cheeses with appelstroop, and a salad with Dutch shrimp, all tasty. The rainy weather cleared just as we arrived at her place, so she took us for a walk to a wonderful cheese shop (where we sampled some local cheeses) and two local markets (one supermarket and one organic market), which were all interesting. We also appreciated the chance to see Fusina's beautiful canal apartment, as we had been wondering what these houses were like inside.

We had the best time with Fusina. Firstly we went shopping for the ingredients, then we returned back to her house to learn how to cook the pancakes. We were made to feel so very welcome in her home. By the end we felt we had known Fusina for ages. If you have a couple of hours to spend in Amsterdam you won't regret spending them with Fusina learning how to make Dutch pancakes. It was an amazing experience.

an awesome and unique experience. had a delicious meal, conversation and made yummy Dutch pancakes! I would highly recommend this to anyone.

We had a wonderful time with Fusina, shopping in the organic market and making the pancakes in her friendly kitchen. Fusina has a great personality - almost the best part of the experience was having casual, relaxed conversation with a local who loves her city and has great knowledge of its history and the way it works - something we don't necessarily experience as tourists.
- Dana1million September 13, 2019
My daughter and I had a wonderful time with Fusina touring her local market, learning about the products, sustainability, and sourcing of local food. We felt welcomed and relaxed and enjoyed the pancake making and conversation! It was a pleasure to be welcomed into her home and learn about Dutch culture.

Fusina was so welcoming and a joy to be around! It was so much fun to learn some history of the city and have some great conversation while making dutch pancakes. I highly recommend this to anyone.

Highlight of our European vacation. Visiting Fusina’s home for a Dutch meal is an amazing experience that can’t missed. The meal started with a few items that had been made in advance to highlight Dutch cuisine, including herring, bitterballen, and a goat cheese tart. We were instructed on how to make stamppot, ours with endive, and ate it with a smoked sausage. We also had the opportunity to flip Dutch pancakes that we made. The food was delicious and allowed us to try a variety of dishes that are popular in Dutch cuisine. Fusina was wonderful! She is a warm host and spending an evening in her home was the highlight of our visit to Europe.

Loved it!! Although we arrived significantly late after getting somewhat lost, Fusina immediately made us feel welcomed and at home, as if we were old friends of hers! After the warm welcoming in her gorgeous living room with a view of the canal, we made our way to her lovely and spacious kitchen where we engaged in the fun of flipping pancakes that were devoured almost immediately!! Our class ended with a tour to the local organic market where we learned many interesting facts. Fusina is such a beautiful person with so much experience in the cooking department, this class was def one of the highlights of our trip!!

Our cooking class with Fusina was fantastic!! Despite us being significantly late, she was warm and welcoming and made us feel so comfortable it was as if she was an old friend! Before we knew it we were in beautiful kitchen flipping traditional Dutch pancakes!! Thank you Fusina for such a delightful experience!!
- ElizabethP2672 December 12, 2018
My husband and I had a wonderful time touring the local organic market and making pancakes with Fusina! We started the day at her home and walked through the canals to the organic market. Fusina is very focused on high quality ingredients and had lots of tips and interesting culinary stories. At the market, we tasted cheese and bought the ingredients for our meal. Then, we went back to Fusina’s home, where we tasted raw herring, more cheese, and cooked three different types of pancakes. She is such a lovely lady, and we really enjoyed sharing pancakes and conversation with her. Fusina also had an 11 year career in cookbooks in the Netherlands and around the world, so she had great insights on other foods (e.g. Indonesian and Surinamese) we could eat in Amsterdam and sights to see.
