Meet Elena

Elena, also known as Lili, is a Romanian ex-scientist turned interior designer who inherited her mother's talent in the kitchen. Elena has an immense love for food and travel! She has visited more than 40 countries and has some fascinating stories to share. When she travels one of her favorite things is to sample the most unusual local foods she can find (from snails and frog legs in France to snake in Vietnam or crocodile tails and green ants in Australia!) Apart from science, interior design, food, cooking and travel, Elena loves photography, theatre and musical theatre, and even performs with the local Rush Musical Society and Skerries Drama Group.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (2-4 guests) Join Elena in her modern home with beautiful sea views on the shore of the Irish Sea in Skerries, a former fishing village. If you're there in time to catch a sunset from her dining room, you are in for a treat. Experience a cultural dining experience as you share a homemade meal with Elena (and her partner Patrick and young daughter, when they are available). Elena will serve you a healthy Irish-fusion meal that combines her Romanian heritage with local Irish recipes. Your menu may include dishes such as traditional Irish beef stew cooked in Guinness with brown bread, Romanian beetroot soup with lovage and creme fraiche, and grilled sea bass on a bed of creamy mash and garlic spinach. You will end your meal with a dessert like upside-down mixed berry cake and fresh cream.

Cooking experience: (2-4 guests) Enjoy a fun and relaxed cooking class in a modern open plan kitchen with panoramic sea views. Learn to cook a healthy, gourmet meal that combines Romanian and local Irish cuisine. You will learn to cook dishes such as Romanian beetroot soup with lovage and creme fraiche, Irish stew or grilled fish with sides, and dessert. After cooking, enjoy the meal you helped prepare with Elena at her dining table.

Market visit: (2-4 guests) Elena's local organic market, open on Saturdays, is a 10-minute drive from Elena's home. The market is located on the grounds of Skerries Mills - a unique collection of two windmills and a watermill with a mill pond, mill races and wetlands. On days when the local organic market is not open, Elena will offer a tour of the town and her favorite local shops.

Notes: Please note, if you plan to take the train from your hotel, it is a 35 minute trip to get to Elena’s home in Skerries from Dublin city center. The name of the three train stations in central Dublin are Tara Street, Connolly Street and Pearse Street, and you can choose any to get to Elena’s home in Skerries, depending on where your hotel is. Please get in touch with Elena for more details about the train timings and directions.

We recently attended a delightful cooking class in a fabulous house at the sea-front in Skerries. Lili, our hostess, was an exceptional personality—vibrant, entertaining, and generous. Her warm hospitality and wealth of cooking knowledge made the class truly enjoyable. She patiently shared tips and tricks that I have already successfully used. Together, we cooked a delicious wild rocket and blue (Stilton) cheese salad with roasted pine nuts and balsamic vinegar/olive oil dressing! Then Lili showed us some more important tricks and tips as we cooked fresh Sea Bass: first frying skin-side down and then grilling. With this, we made a divine garlic sauce and some seasonal vegetables on the side. Tiramisu for dessert was the perfect finish. We enjoyed a very comfortable and memorable evening together. I would certainly love to cook with Lili again and try some other interesting recipes.

Lili is a ball of fire and passionate about food! We were welcomed into her home like old friends and after touring around the Skerries (unexpected and so appreciated!), we enjoyed a meal (rocket, blue cheese, pecan wonder! , sea bass, monk fish, mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, GARLIC!, Chilean peppers, asparagus and baby carrots. Enough to feed us for days! It was superb and in a beautiful home with an engaging family. Thank you!! PS-the borscht was a treat - cannot wait to grow my own lovage! :)

This was a great experience-not only was it a fabulous dinner, but the kindness of the family was truly wonderful. The hostess picked us up from the train in Skerries Ireland and then took us on a tour of the beautiful village before going to their beautiful house. The evening was so enjoyable, and the hostess and host truly did treat us like family. I would totally recommend this tour as part of your trip to Ireland. The hostess and host truly went beyond any expectations-I would give 5 stars++

Great food and conversations. Very accommodating to our needs and went out of her way to make us feel welcomed. Also included a tour off Skerries which we did not ext.

Don't miss an evening with Lili , she is a real Irish / Romanian gem ! We had a truly wonderful time with Lili ,Patrick and their daughter Nadia. Lili graciously picked up our group of four from the Skerries train station. She proceeded to give us a grand tour of her truly interesting and beautiful fishing village of Skerries.. We enjoyed a great conversation over drinks and hor d'oeuvres . We were treated for our first time with a truly wonderful beetroot soup - Romanian borscht - great ! Our dinner was truly wonderful and we finished the evening with a wonderful desert in a third story room that had a fantastic view of the Irish Sea - stunning ! I must mention that earlier in the evening my wife was not feeling well and unannounced to us Lili slipped away for a few minutes and came back with some over counter medicine that my wife needed . Wow ! At the end of the evening we all felt we were with old friends ! They will be welcome in our home in Texas any time !
- Patrick June 17, 2022
Lili and Patrick were excellent hosts. Lili is skilled and knowledgeable culinary expert. The meal was amazing!

The entire experience was outstanding! Prior to the cooking lesson, Lili took us on a tour of the fishing village of Skerries, which was awesome! The cooking lesson was great and the food was delicious! The lesson and time spent with Lili in Skerries was one of the highlights of our trip to Ireland!!!

Elena's "cooking class" is so much more than a lesson on how to prepare a 5-star meal. My friends and I were personally picked up at the Skerries train station (only a short ride from Dublin), driven through the scenic waterfront village of Skerries, toured the local Saturday Farmer's Market, and viewed the grounds of a local historic home/park --all with Elena's delightful narrative --and all before being welcomed into her charming seaside home (with incredible views). Elena was wonderfully prepared with appetizers and beverages to start and had all the ingredients efficiently prepped which allowed the cooking class to run most smoothly. From the first moment our taste buds were in for a treat. One of our group is a vegetarian and that just expanded the amazing foods and recipes Elena shared. No worries if you are not a hands on cook; Elena is a whiz in the kitchen and in complete control of the menu requiring only a little fun hands-on chopping or stirring. The meal was 5 stars -- incorporating fresh local foods with Elena's wealth of recipes reflecting her modern European sophistication and Old World charm. Eat a light breakfast then plan to enjoy the majority of the day "bridging the cultural divide through food".
- victoria December 20, 2021
Elena was a star! She prepared a lot and in advance. My daughter loved cooking a long side her. She took me and my daughter for a tour around town and really hosted us well! The food was delicious I will definitely recommend to friends and family .
- lilyconstantine August 16, 2020
If you are looking to explore outside of Dublin and want a fun, dynamic, and talented hostess, this is the experience for you. Elena was warm, charming, funny, and put together a meal that my wife and I enjoyed very much (just made it at home last night, in fact). Our train and travel schedule did not allow for a lot of cooking together, but the tour of Skerries, the cocktails overlooking the sea, and the Romanian influenced Irish meal made the experience once-in-a-lifetime. Very warm and inviting family and well worth the trip to Skerries. Highly recommended.
- kerrytaz October 11, 2019
We had a beautiful dinner including appetizers and drinks, borsh, duck with potatoes and salad, Tiramisu for dessert. It was fun to spend the evening with Lili, Patrick, and Natasha. We would strongly recommend having dinner with them when you are in Dublin or Skerries.
- Tim S October 01, 2019
I was looking for an interactive cooking experience for myself, my husband and our 13-year old son, and I'm so happy I found Lili and her family! She was so wonderfully welcoming, and not only did she make a great meal, but she took us all around Skerries - which is really beautiful and so very different than Dublin. Beyond food, we love making meaningful connections when we travel, and this was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. I'd highly recommend this and send our thanks to Lili, Patrick and Nadia!

If you like to meet people, get an idea of what life is like in a beautiful town (and house) outside of Dublin and have the experience of making a delicious meal with amazing people, I would recommend this! Lili is dynamic and friendly and her family is so nice, too- including the dog. She was available just a few days in advance for me and volunteered to show me some sights in the town before going to her spectacular house, where she expertly put together the best meal I had in Ireland (with just a little help from me). She was interested in making me feel comfortable and welcome, in what I liked to eat and in making something healthy. The meal was gourmet and so delicious! She is the perfect hostess and a talented cook. If you have the chance to do this, don’t hesitate for a minute. The experience is worth at least triple of what you pay. I have such great memories of this experience. Thanks, Lili!!
- Beth R July 19, 2019
An absolutely delightful evening: drinks on the rooftop terrace overlooking the Skerries shoreline, followed by a spectacular multi-course dinner. But best is all is the conversation with Elena and Patrick - a unique and unforgettable part of our visit to Ireland!
- ulysses06 July 07, 2019
We had a wonderful experience with Elena - her home is in a beautiful part of the country - the views from her kitchen were breathtaking. But the warmth of her personality is what made time with her one the best parts of our vacation. Great food, great fun!
