Meet Linh

Linh (pronounced Ling) learned to cook traditional Vietnamese recipes from her mother and grandmother. She also went to culinary school in Danang where she learned about Vietnamese cooking techniques. She has been running two restaurants and offering cooking classes since 2012. Linh is truly a culinary expert and will share with you the secret of making mouth-watering Vietnamese delicacies.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (1-12 guests) Linh lives in a beautiful house near Hoi An city, nestled between the stunning Cua Dai beach and the Bon River. Her kitchen is spacious, beautifully decorated and was specially designed to provide all the amenities of a cooking school in a welcoming setting. Linh will introduce you to the ingredients used in traditional Vietnamese cooking. You will then sit down and share a meal that includes dishes such as cao lầu (a special Hoi An noodle dish), bánh xèo (Vietnamese pancakes), chả giò hoi an (fried spring rolls with pork and shrimps), stir fried chicken with lemongrass and chili, and grilled eggplants.

Cooking experience: (1-12 guests) Join Linh and her kitchen staff in her immaculate kitchen to learn to cook popular local Vietnamese dishes in your traditional Vietnamese cooking class in Hoi An. This is a fun, educational, hands-on cooking class that will last about two hours. With Linh's help you will learn to prepare four dishes from scratch. All while she shares tons of tips and tricks and valuable insight on the ingredients, culture, cuisine and culinary traditions. After you cook, you will sit down at the dining table to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Linh will also share with you a recipe book, so that you can easily recreate everything you will learnt in your Vietnamese cooking class.

Market visit: (1-12 guests) Linh will pick you up from your Hoi An hotel and accompany you to the Hoi An Central Market. This is a local open market where Linh will help you discover Vietnamese street foods, vegetables, herbs, spices, meat and seafood. You will purchase a few fresh ingredients needed for your cooking class and learn about how they are used in cooking. Before you leave the market for Linh’s home she will treat you to some coffee and sweet snacks. Linh’s home is approximately a 6km drive from the market.

Notes: Pick up and drop-off only from Hoi An hotels are included in the price. Please write your hotel name and address when booking your Hoi An cooking class online.

PERSONALLY VETTED REVIEW
A Traveling Spoon ambassador visited this host. Here is their personal review.

I honestly loved everything about the experience! My favorite things I ate were the cao lầu and the chả giò hoi an. I enjoyed every single moment - from assembling the spring rolls to creating all of the different sauces for our meal. Linh was very responsive, she took time to explain interesting information about the different ingredients we would use, and even invited us to coffee and sweet snacks after the market tour. Her kitchen is immaculate and beautiful, and ideally set up for a cooking class. She even gifted us long, wooden chopsticks and a vegetable slicer/chopper, which was very sweet!

I highly recommend this Hoi An cooking class with Linh. It was undoubtedly the best Vietnamese food we ate in the whole of Vietnam, on our two week trip there. I had the biggest smile on my face when I had this experience with my best friend and I have the biggest smile on my face now while writing this review, reliving the wonderful day. It's the perfect experience for anyone who is curious about Vietnamese food, culture and cuisine. You will not just leave with your stomachs full but would have learned so much about the people, culture, ingredients and how truly special it is to be invited into a local's home and have them share their heritage with you! Linh picked us up at our hotel, she then shared with us a menu where we could choose any four dishes that we would like to learn to cook. After selecting our dishes we arrived at Hoi An Central market where we were given the beautiful Vietnamese conical hat and basket to begin our shopping adventure. This is a farmers market, where you will mostly find locals buying fresh, seasonal produce. Depending on the dishes we chose, Linh guided us with the ingredients we needed to buy, all while explaining to us where it comes from, its significance in Vietnamese cooking and how to choose the freshest ingredients. We bought fresh herbs, vegetables, meat and spices and even tried some local fruits and shared a Vietnamese coffee before heading to Linh's home. The journey to her home was wonderful, we go to see another side of Hoi An, all while hearing fun stories about Linh and her family. Upon arrival we were greeted by Linh's sister and husband, who offered us a refreshment before we went to her beautiful, professional level kitchen for our Hoi An cooking class. In 2 hours, we prepared four dishes from scratch - a private, hands-on experience, which is suitable for all - beginners, professionals, families, couples and even children. I did the cooking class with my best friend and it was the most unique experience we have had together, we often reminisce about it, it was truly the highlight of our trip! Now coming to the best part, sharing the dishes we helped prepare, undoubtedly the best cao lau and banh xeo in Vietnam. And the grilled lemongrass fish in banana leaves was the most flavorful fish dish I've ever eaten! I cannot wait to re-create it, Linh even shared a recipe book with us, so it will not be difficult. This is an unmissable experience in Hoi An, a must do on every traveler's list. The best Vietnamese cooking class in Hoi An to learn local, traditional dishes from an expert! Thank you so much Linh, this Vietnamese cooking class is truly unforgettable and so memorable!

My friend and I had such a fun afternoon with Linh! She took us to the market and we learned about different local ingredients. We then went to her home where we prepared 4 delicious Hoi An recipes. Linh was a wonderful teacher and the food was so good. I highly recommend!!

We had a fantastic time with Linh, learning not just how to cook some delicious Vietnamese dishes, but also about her family, about Vietnam and life in this beautiful country. We started with a trip to the market where we bought fresh fish and veggies for the dishes we had chosen to make, Linh was great at describing what everything was and super knowledgeable about the market and stall holders. Then after a quick drink stop, we went to Linh’s home by the beach to cook up s storm in her amazing purpose built kitchen. We chopped, marinaded, stirred, fried and served up four dishes including Vietnamese pancakes, eggplant with lemongrass and chilli, vegetable curry and a sweet and sour fish dish. We enjoyed a meal and more chatter with the lovely Linh and had a wonderful few hours at her home. We can’t wait to try cooking them at home. We highly recommend doing this cooking class with her and hope to see her again on our next visit. Thank you Linh xx

My class with Linh started at our hotel, where she picked me up (she had a driver) and then we went to the local market. During our walk through the market Linh taught me about a lot of local fruits and vegetables, and didn't hesitate to stop and buy goods so I could try them. After the market visit we drove to her home, where we had a 3 hour cooking class. I'm amazed at how many different dishes we made! Everything was fresh, delicious, clean and fun. I'd highly recommend this experience to anyone that wants a unique cooking experience where you go into the cooks home, learn about their life, culture and enjoy delicious food that you had a hand in making.

The experience with Linh in Hoi An was terrific and first rate; wonderful market trip where she bought from regular local vendors many of whom she clearly knew. We finished the market tour with a cup of coffee at a local cafe then to her house for the class and meal. Her kitchen is lovely and very adequate for a group - she has several burners. The home is nice and accommodating and is very close to the beach. Her teaching was experienced and organized - easy to understand and duplicate at home. The food was delicious and she offered a beer with lunch:-) The pick up and drop off were great as well. She gave a sweet parting gift of cooking chop sticks and a Vietnamese veg peeler.
