Meet Angelina (Mykonos)

Angelina's interest in cooking was sparked as a teenager as she watched her grandmothers and mother cook in their Greek kitchen. After her studying sociology Angelina worked as a journalist, has published a magazine and taught media in the past. She has traveled around the world and it was during her time living in South Korea in the 90's that she started offering Greek cooking classes. An active bilingual food blogger, member of Slow Food International and a member of the Mykonos Gastronomic Club, Angelina is passionate about sharing forgotten Greek and Myconian recipes featuring locally produced and seasonal ingredients with her guests. One of her passions is discovering traditional island cheeses, small wineries, and microbreweries and she loves sharing her insider knowledge with her guests.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (2-14 guests) Enjoy a traditional Greek meal at Angelina's dining table, or outdoors when the weather is good. Angelina focuses on Myconian produce and seafood caught off the island's shores. Your authentic Greek meal will start with meze (appetizers) such as taramosalata, saganaki (a soft, fried cheese), tzatziki (yoghurt dip), spanakopita (phyllo pastries), gigantes plaki (giant beans in a tomato sauce) and be followed by a Greek salad, a main dish such as grilled calamari crowns with basil pesto or a whole fish or lamb and potatoes or garides saganaki (prawns in fresh tomato sauce with feta cheese) or revithada (a chickpea dish from the nearby island of Sifnos, slow-cooked in a clay pot) or the traditional moussaka, perfectly cooked.

For dessert, try Angelina's homemade karidopitta (sticky walnut cake) with ice cream or a super easy baklava that you will have made together or a semolina halva with spices and homemade citrus jelly.

Cooking experience: (2-14 guests) Learn to prepare a traditional Greek meal and a few local specialties in Angelina's kitchen in this Mykonos cooking class. When weather permits you might cook outdoors in a shaded barbecue area. During your hands-on cooking lesson you will help Angelina to assemble both savory as well as sweet dishes like feta parcels with honey and sesame (or spanakopita if there is fresh spinach available) and the easiest baklava. She will also show you how to prepare the main dish, either shrimps saganaki in fresh tomato sauce with feta chunks or grilled calamari with basil pesto orzo or orzotto (like risotto but with orzo pasta) with calamari and summer vegetables or soutzoukakia (the greek beef and mint meatballs in fresh tomato slightly spicy sauce) or fish fillets in wine and tomato sauce, served with roasted potatoes. As you learn to cook with a small ouzo in hand, Angelina will help you understand Cycladic island gastronomy. You will discover how less becomes more in the Greek island cuisine, turning the limited produce of the islands into a deeply satisfying meal. After you cook, sit down to share the meal you helped to prepare. Angelina is excited to share her culture through food and offer an authentic cooking class in Mykonos. She can also accommodate a vegetarian diet in her Greek cooking class in Mykonos.

Market visit: (2-4 guests) Angelina will meet you at the entrance of the little SeaBus stop pier. From here, you will walk together to the open-air fishmongers and farmers market to discover the local and regional produce of the island. From the stalls you will purchase fresh fish (if available) and shop for seasonal vegetables. Visit the local bakery for some fresh bread or the butcher to shop for ingredients for your meze platter. Stop at a small supermarket along the way to learn about and purchase local cheeses (tyrovolia and kopanisti) for the small cheese pies that you will make. Your market tour will last about 30 minutes after which you walk a few minutes, basked in hand to Angelina's home to begin your cooking class. Please note that the open-air farmers market ends at noon so it is recommended that you start your market tour at 10am.

Notes: Angelina is only available on Mykonos in the summer months, from May - October, and she has limited availability. Please note that you have to walk for 5-10 minutes from the Sea Bus and/or taxi drop off to Angelina's home, it can be reached on foot only.

Angelina and her family hosted six of us in her spectacular home overlooking the sea in Mykonos (a 25 minute drive from town). She also has a home in town for smaller groups. This was not only a cooking class but an introduction to the lifestyle and architecture of Mykonos. Angelina asked what we'd like to learn to cook in advance; every single dish was absolutely delicious and quite easy to prepare. Our hosts were warm, interesting, lots of fun. We've been raving us about our wonderful day ever since and HIGHLY recommend Angelina's cooking classes to anyone who wants an exceptional and very memorable day in Mykonos.

The whole experience was absolutely amazing. Angelina was incredibly accommodating leading up to the event, offering additional choices or substitutions in place of foods we couldn't eat or preferred, and super adaptive at a moment's notice (swapping out ingredients last minute without sacrificing taste). Angelina is not only an incredible chef but a wonderful host that offered fantastic hospitality at her beautiful home and friendship through food that was easy to make and even better to enjoy. Easily the highlight of our trip.

Angelina was a wonderful host and teacher! We loved this experience and would recommend to anyone going to Mykonos! We can't wait to show our families what we learned!

From the moment my sister & I walked in to Angelina’s warm & welcoming home in Mykonos, we knew we were in for an unforgettable experience! Greetings began with an ouzo on ice (to get the gastronomy going: Opa!). Along with this traditional Greek drink we enjoyed some delicious, authentic Greek appetizers. As we chatted, we learned how to make feta parcels, tzatziki and shrimp saganaki. We ended our meal with a recipe of baklava (We prepared together). Everything was absolutely delicious. Hats off to Angelina! Thank you for welcoming us into your beautiful home!

Angelina was an amazing teacher, host, and cook. She made us feel very comfortable in her place and we had a great time cooking Greek dishes with her. The portions were large and we had more food than we could eat. The food was amazing and the recipes I think will be ones we can make our own and when we return home. I would highly recommend this cooking class with Angelina.

We had the BEST time with Angelina Kalogeropoulou in her darling home right in Mykonos town! It was a highlight of our Greece vacation. Angelina was so lovely and we had a blast learning to make Greek appetizers, cheese pies, tzatziki, Greek salad, shrimps in a tomato sauce and simple baklava!!! All enjoyed with a bit of Uzzo to start and then a great local wine. And it was all so delicious! Plus we learned a little bit about the culinary history and how and why they cook the way they do. With an emphasis on filo and feta!! YUM!

It’s hard to say what our favorite part of this amazing experience was! Let’s start with Angelina... SHE is what makes this experience so very special and fun! She connected with us shortly after we registered for the cooking class. And her thoughtful planning of a menu that was special and unique for us was much appreciated! Angelina made this so much more than a cooking class. We learned about the culture and food that we made and we felt like we spent the afternoon with family. The food... so fun to cook alongside Angelina and even more fun to eat our dishes. Wow!! She is a chef extraordinaire and we learned so much! She has since shared her recipes and I’ve made most of the dishes and impressed everyone that has tried them- delicious!! We were in Greece for 10 days. We loved every minute of our vacation... And we all agree- my husband, myself and our two teenage girls- that this cooking experience with Angelina was a highlight!! She is fun and warm and kind, not to mention an outstanding chef! Thank you for making this a special part of our family trip, Angelina!!
- Nadine May 12, 2022
The cooking class was phenomenal, Angie was so kind and took the time to adapt the class and recipes due to some of our preferences. The food was fantastic and was full for the whole day! I will definitely be using the recipes at home, she made sure to use ingredients we could find at home and gave history / knowledge of every dish we made/ ate. I’ve done a lot of cooking classes at multiple locations, but this was by far the best. It was a great experience and Angie made us feel at ease and was eager for us to get involved. Thank you Angie for a great day!

This experience was absolutely fabulous! One of our favorite days of the entire trip. Angelina was incredibly hospitable and a wonderful chef and instructor! We felt so at home. Wonderful!

We are a family of four with two teenagers. One of us has dietary restrictions that might have made it difficult to experience authentic Greek cuisine. Angelina created a menu that totally worked with the restrictions but was also authentic and delicious to boot! What an incredible experience: to be invited into someone’s home, taught their regional cuisine and cooking methods, and then to enjoy a languorous meal with new friends in a gorgeous setting. We were blown away! Angelina and her husband have a gorgeous, well-appointed home with fabulous views in every direction. We toured their garden, picked herbs for the meal, and felt an immediate kinship with them—-perhaps because they were so open and curious and generous as hosts. I highly recommend this magical experience.

My wife and I had the opportunity to spend an evening cooking with Angelina. It was without a doubt one of the highlights of this trip (or many others we've taken before). We were picked up and whisked away to her beautiful home, which is on a quiet SE side of the island with an incredible view to the water. She had tasty mezzes prepared for us when we arrived. We then learned how to cook several dishes. She was flexible but clear in her teaching and would allow us to watch her or to do things ourselves. We made dinner and then took a 'break' to eat the amazing food. Finally we made dessert and ate that too. We had a lot of fun spending time with her and her husband Soren...frankly we enjoyed meeting and chatting with them just as much as the "class" itself. We talked about food, life, travel, and more. We ended up staying a bit later than the original time but never felt rushed. Anjelina herself is passionate about not only the final product but the process itself. She is sweet and caring and skilled, and you can see that in every minute you spend with her. We just had a really wonderful night. Thanks to Traveling Spoon for offering this experience.
- samir2468 May 07, 2019
My wife and I really enjoyed the time with Angelina and her family. She really gave us all the need to know on Greek culture, how they eat their meals, and obviously how to make some amazing dishes. Thanks Angelina!

While perusing the Traveling Spoon website for my trip to Greece, my goal was to find a culinary host with whom I felt connected. I was surprised to find there were many, but one really stood out - Angela. She lives between Athens and Mykonos, and I was thrilled to find out she was going to be based in Mykonos while I was there. From the moment we were picked up from our hotel in Mykonos, to the moment we were dropped off, the experience was exceptional - she and her husband, Soren, welcomed us with warmth and graciousness into their stunning villa with unobstructed views overlooking the Aegean. Angelina taught us how to make Spanakopita (as per my request). She had all the ingredients perfectly chopped and ready to go. The experience was completely seamless - Angelina is a professional! She explained and demonstrated what to do, while fluttering around the kitchen so gracefully, topping off our glasses of chilled rose, while simultaneously grilling the lamb and the other delicious dishes she had pre-prepared for our lunch. Their home is bright and welcoming. While cooking in the kitchen, the door is open and all you see if the various blues of the sea and sky. The terrace views are incredible and beyond anything I had anticipated when I signed up for this cooking experience. This is truly a high end and high touch experience, and I feel honored to have met Angelina who is very much involved in the culinary scene in Mykonos. She is a wealth of knowledge about the history, culture...and most importantly a food guru :-)Thank you to the Traveling Spoon. I will search for a culinary experience wherever I go. We had the best time!

Most of our Traveling Spoon experiences are incredibly family friendly and can accommodate infants and children. If a host is unable to accommodate children that will be noted in the “Notes” section of their profile. Our child pricing policy is children aged 5-11 are 50% off, and infants aged 0-4 are free.
