Meet Cristian

Cristian is a Chilean resident who has lived abroad for many years. He started cooking when he was an exchange student in the US. Cristian missed home food so much that he taught himself to cook a few of his favorite dishes using family recipes. He then cooked professionally, worked in the airline business, ran his own restaurant for 10 years and started a catering company. During this time, he also studied to be a certified English-Portuguese interpreter and translator. His love for food and cooking has been lifelong and he is so excited to welcome travelers at his home to share his food and teach them about Chilean culture, ingredients and history.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

Cooking experience: (2-7 guests) For the evening experience (dinner menu), Cristian offers a hands-on Chilean cooking class at his apartment in El Golf, Santiago. If you live centrally, Cristian will pick you up from your hotel at 6pm and will drive you to his apartment. You will be welcomed with oysters and stunning views of the city. Then roll up your sleeves for a hands-on cooking class where you will learn to cook two dishes - pastel de choclo (Chilean beef and corn pie) and a cardamom ceviche from scratch. After cooking, join Cristian at the beautiful outdoor table (weather permitting) covered in white linen, flowers and candles to enjoy the meal you helped prepare. Your traditional Chilean meal will be served with wine pairings and a dessert such as cheesecake and strawberries.

Market visit: (2-7 guests) For the morning experience (lunch menu), Cristian offers a guided visit to the most important local markets in Santiago, followed by a hands-on cooking class and a traditional Chilean meal, with wine pairings. If you live centrally, Cristian will pick you up from your hotel at 10am and take you on a guided tour of the markets - meat market (Vega Chica), fish market (Mercado Central) and fresh market (Vega Grande), the largest fresh market in Latin America. This is where Cristian buys his fresh produce. It's a great opportunity to see the local shops, discover regional produce and get insights on how local ingredients are used in Chilean cooking. You will also get the chance to interact with vendors, some of whom are Cristian's friends. After the tour, drive to Cristian's apartment to cook traditional Chilean dishes with ingredients you bought at the market. You will be welcomed with oysters, before you begin your hands-on Chilean cooking class, where you will learn to cook two dishes - charquicán (a local aboriginal dish) and cardamom ceviche from scratch. After cooking, enjoy the meal you helped prepare with wine and some dessert such as cheesecake and strawberries.

Notes: This booking requires a 1-week cancellation for a full refund. Our standard 48-hour cancellation policy does not apply to this experience.

Wine pairings and central hotel pick up and drop off is included in the price of your Santiago cooking class. If you live outside the center, please meet Cristian directly at his apartment in El Golf. Please add your hotel name and address and let Cristian know if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, while booking your experience.
