Meet Na Young

Na Young is Korean-Bolivian; she started cooking as a young girl and went on to receive a degree in gastronomy from Le Cordon Bleu-Peru. Na Young has worked as a professional chef for over a decade around the world. She grew up in Bolivia, lived around the world, and in 2021, she moved to South Korea to study Korean culture, language and gastronomy. Na Young loves to cook Korean food from scratch, making her own sauces and ferments. Currently she runs her own catering business and offers her services at food festivals, the South American embassy, and the Bolivian embassy in Seoul. And recently she opened her own restaurant in Hongdae, where she offer Latin cuisine. Na Young is so excited to meet new people and share her passion for food with them.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal: (2-6 guests) Na Young lives with her boyfriend and beautiful dog, Luna, in a cozy apartment in Mapo-gu. She lives near a local market and loves to buy fresh, seasonal produce directly from the farmers. Apart from sharing her recipes and food, Na Young is also happy to share recommendations for local places in Seoul that she enjoys visiting. A few dishes that you will try at Na Young's home are soup, kimchi (a traditional Korean banchan consisting of salted and fermented vegetables) different type of vegetables ,korean rice, seasonal fruit and your choice of main; either MENU 1 bibimbap (the term 'bibim' means mixing and 'bap' is cooked rice), MENU 2 beef bulgogi (it literally means 'fire meat' made of thin, sweet marinated slices of meat grilled on a barbecue or on a stove-top griddle) or MENU 3 kongnamul-bulgogi ('soybean sprout bulgogi', a combination of pork bean sprouts, vegetables, and spicy sauce). Please choose your main dish preference when booking your experience online.

Cooking experience: (2-5 guests) During your 1-hour, hands-on Korean cooking class in Seoul, learn to make two authentic Korean dishes from scratch. Join Na Young in her home kitchen to learn to cook some of her favorite Korean dishes. You will learn to cook one main dish and a side dish (banchan) - such as kimchi or tofu soup (depending of the season). During your Seoul cooking class, you can choose between bibimbap or beef bulgogi or kongnamul-bulgogi, as your main dish. After cooking, enjoy the dishes you helped prepare at the dining table with Na Young. Your meal includes traditional soju.

Market visit: (2-5 guests) Visit the Mangwon market, a traditional market that has been in Seoul for over 40 years frequented by locals to buy fruits, vegetables, meat and seafood. This is a spacious indoor market where they sell local produce, along with spicy snacks and cooked dishes. Walk around this local marketplace for 30 minutes while you visit a few stalls with Na Young to learn about local, seasonal ingredients used in Korean cuisine. Here you will purchase with Na Young a few ingredients for your cooking class. And then sample a traditional snack before walking for 10 minutes back to Na Young's apartment for your cooking class

Notes: Na Young can accommodate gluten free, vegetarian and vegan diets on request. Please inform her in advance if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, while booking your Seoul cooking class online. Your price includes the cost of 1-2 glasses of traditional, homemade Soju.

Please note that Na Young can host only 1 child per experience. Please remember to take off your shoes before entering Na Young's home, as that is customary in South Korea. Na Young will provide some indoor sandals that you can use to walk inside the house. And please Whatsapp Na Young or call her, in case you need help with directions or if you're running late.

Very enjoyable market tour and cooking class led by Na Young Kim. She showed my wife and me her favorite vendors in the Mangwon Market. After that we learned Korean cooking techinques as we prepared a multi-course lunch in her apartment. All the food was very tasty. A great way to spend a few hours in Seoul.

This was an incredible experience! After meeting Na young at the subway exit, we walked to a nearby market to sample local street food and purchase fresh vegetables for the cooking we would do later. Next we walked to our host’s home to start our culinarily segment of the day. When we arrived at the house, we began preparing the vegetables Na young just bought for kimchi. As we helped prepare soup and the main dish beef bulgogi, we conversed about our plans in Korea and Na young’s future restaurant plans. The food was delicious and the company was easy and enjoyable to talk to. Afterwards Na young and her lovely dog Luna walked us back to where we started this excellent adventure. Highly recommended.
