Meet Lenka

Lenka is a passionate baker and food lover from Slovakia currently living, eating, and baking in Park City, Utah! One of Lenka’s fondest memories from her childhood, is kneading dough on her grandma’s knees, it is something she vividly remembers every time she thinks of her childhood. She learned to cook and bake from her grandmother when she was eight, and still uses her valuable recipes. Mixing, whisking, licking out the bowls, kneading, filling, baking and most of all, cherishing seasonal ingredients and turning them into delicious breads, pastries and cakes – has always been Lenka’s happy haven. When she moved out of Slovakia to live in other parts of the world, returning back to traditional Slovak cuisine and especially to baked goods was a natural transition for Lenka as a way to feel at home, and cherish her own culture and heritage. Apart from baking for friends and family and conducting baking classes - online and in-person, Lenka also writes a blog. Which she considers to be a baking diary - a collection of recipes she inherited from both her grandmothers.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

Cooking experience: (2-8 guests) In this cooking class in Park City, Lenka’s main focus is on sharing traditional Slovak and Eastern European pastries. She is so excited to share her family recipes and teach you about Eastern European cuisine – which is incredibly diverse and still pretty unexplored.

During your 1.5 hour hands-on baking class learn how to bake two pastries from scratch - sweet and savory traditional kolaches (traditional breakfast pastries) and babka bread (sweet braided bread of Jewish origins). Both pastries will be filled with a variety of different, typical and seasonal fillings for example, poppy seed paste, walnut paste, sweet cheese filling, savory cheese filling, chocolate, jams, ajvar (vegetable spread) or sauerkraut. The baking class is hands-on and every guest will be making their own batch of pastry. After you learn to make traditional Slovak and Eastern European pastries from scratch, following Lenka’s family recipes, you will sit down to share the dishes you helped prepare.

Notes: Lenka can accommodate lactose free, vegetarian and vegan diets, so please let her know if you have dietary restrictions while booking this Park City baking class online. Please note that pick up and drop off (at an additional cost) can only be offered from hotels within Park City limits.

Lenka was a wonderful hostess. She made us feel right at home. She loves what she does and it shows. Her directions were clear and easy to follow. She walked us through each step and made things easy. We left with tasty treats, and the knowledge needed to make them again by ourselves. Kudos to Lenka.

The baking experience with Lenka was a 10 out of 10! She had the baking stations all set up for us when we arrived and explained the pastries we were baking. She also had champagne, sparkling water and snacks for us during the class. I would recommend this experience to anyone!

Lenka was very knowledgeable. She was able to not only explain how to make the pastries, but how the ingredients worked together. She was very friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the class very much and loved the kolaches and babka!

Lenka is a patient and kind instructor who opens her home for intimate cooking classes. My husband and I enjoyed baking after a day on the ski hill.

We had a wonderful experience with Lenka! The recipes she teaches were passed down from her grandmother, and even as a frequent baker, I learned so much! We made delicious babka and kolaches that we got to take home for the rest of our family to enjoy, and Lenka provided us with electronic copies of the recipes so we can make them again at home. We especially loved filling and shaping the kolaches! Lovely way to spend the morning!

My husband and I took this class while on vacation in Park City. What fun! We each had our own prep station, and Lenka patiently walked us through the process, step by step. She is a fantastic teacher. We had multiple options for fillings: fruit jams, chocolate, sweet cheese, etc., and Lenka encouraged us to be adventurous (I never would have tried sauerkraut with plum jam on my own, but OMG it’s delicious!). For our class, we each made 6 kolaches and a loaf of babka. We baked the kolaches there and sampled them (SO GOOD!), and brought the babka back to our condo to bake later. We enjoyed learning about the history of the pastries, and how they vary from country to country. Lenka provides a recipe booklet to take home which also includes recipes for different fillings, and some additional ways to use the dough. We highly recommend Lenka’s class for couples, a group of friends, or anyone who wants to learn how to make something new!
