Meet Christos

A professional chef, Christos is a fun and passionate host who enjoys meeting new people and sharing his knowledge of Greek cooking with them. Enjoy a cooking class with this Greek native who delights in showcasing garden fresh produce cooked using traditional Greek techniques. Your chef teaches cooking classes in a beautiful vineyard and garden venue. Unlike typical Traveling Spoon experiences, this experience takes place in a local cooking studio and restaurant and not in a home.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

Cooking experience: (2-12 guests) Meet your fun and friendly host who will give you a short tour of the gardens where they grow everything from the delicious Greek tomato to crisp cucumbers. At a modern, cooking studio, learn to cook authentic local recipes that your host has perfected. During this hands-on, Greek farm to table cooking class, you will cook with fresh vegetables and herbs from the gardens, as well as other ingredients from local farmers. Learn to make traditional dishes such as the famed Santorinian fava, tomato fritters, pork fillets with Vinsanto sauce or if you are vegetarian, an exquisite local tomato paste and garlic pasta. Your cooking class lasts about 1.5 hours after which you will savor the meal you helped prepare in a beautiful restaurant setting, indoors or outdoors, weather permitting. Your meal will be accompanied by volcanic wines from the Artemis Karamolegos Winery and concludes with a sweet dessert.

Notes: Your host is happy to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free and gluten-free requests. Wine is included in the cost of your experience. On days that Christos is not available, an equally passionate culinary chef will host you instead.

WHAT WE LOVE
A Traveling Spoon team member has visited this host. Our favorite parts of this experience:
  • We liked the friendliness of the chef, his human qualities and his way of life. He is very welcoming. Easy and good recipes to make! Super beautiful frame! Nice visit and meal at the top (we did not manage to finish even though we are very big eaters!) Beginner level for this cooking class so the pros in the kitchen are not top chefs ^^

I was a little concerned with the price for this cooking class before booking, but it is definitely worth it. The description doesn’t do it justice. The class is held at Aroma Avlis which is the restaurant of the winery Artemis Karamolegos. The restaurant and gardens are gorgeous! We arrived a little early and they greeted us with a glass of wine of our choice and allowed us to hang out on the patio until the class started. The class was lead by chef Chris and assistant Phillip who were both very knowledgeable about Greek cuisine and wine. They both made the class so fun! Chris is VERY passionate about food and clearly loved sharing his knowledge with us. We first made fava, followed by Greek salad, tomato fritters, and pork tenderloin with vinsanto wine sauce. The class was more demonstration than active cooking but we didn’t care. We helped slice the veggies, blend the fava, mix the salad, and fry the fritters. We sampled each of the dishes as they finished. The fava and tomato fritters were the best things we ate on our entire trip! SO DELICIOUS! In addition, Philip poured us wine the entire duration of the class. We easily killed an entire bottle between my fiancé and I. After the class ended, Philip took us on a tour of the cellar and bottling facility, then invited us back to the restaurant where they served us the remainder of what was prepped during the cooking class PLUS a bottle of wine and a desert. The experience felt so luxurious. We were so full, and pretty drunk (lol) by the end. We had a lot of left over food so they provided to-go boxes and even a cork for the bottle of wine we didn’t finish. Overall, this was an amazing cooking class that is well worth the price. Ive done cooking classes in Japan, Korea, Thailand, Mexico, Spain, and this class was hands down one of my favorite experiences.

Amazing menu, and the food and wine were plentiful! The chef and staff made the experience one we’ll never forget. Located in a beautiful enclosed garden/farm, so everything was farm-to-table. A 5-star experience!

Absolutely loved this experience! Chris and Philip were so much fun and were very easy to talk to. We learned a lot about Greek cooking, ate an incredible dinner, and enjoyed the beautiful views of the garden and winery. Make sure you come hungry! We were stuffed by the time we left.

We had an amazing time! The chef and everyone at the restaurant were incredibly friendly, and the food was some of the best we’ve had in Greece! The recipes were simple enough that I feel like I could actually make them at home, but still delicious. The wine never stopped flowing and the atmosphere of the class was unbelievable. Highly recommend for anyone traveling to santorini!
