Meet Daria

Daria is a warm, fun and entertaining host who lives with her husband Michael in a mountain home just outside Roseau. Daria says she learned to be an efficient cook from her mother and learned to have fun in the kitchen from her eldest sister! She has fond memories of her dad buying her sister an expensive cookbook and together trying out different recipes everyday. Daria was formally trained in nutrition and loves to experiment in her kitchen. Daria enjoys hosting because she loves meeting different people from around the world - she is eager to learn about other people's culture and to share with travelers her culture and experiences.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

Cooking experience: (2-25 guests) You will be picked up by Daria's husband Michael and driven to their mountain home for your Roseau cooking class. Here, Daria will welcome you into her home with a refreshing juice made from local and seasonal fruits. Enjoy the view of the mountains and the sea as you walk around her garden. Back in her kitchen, Daria will introduce you to local fruit, vegetables and potions that Daria concocts herself. Roll up your sleeves and learn to cook 3-4, authentic and seasonal Creole dishes (that Daria puts her own creative twist on!) during your Dominica cooking class in Roseau. Creole cuisine is a fusion of indigenous, African and European food cultures - be sure to hear the stories of some of the island's iconic dishes. You may learn to cook dishes such as spicy batter fried plantain, Creole-styled stewed fish in a blend of peppers, tomatoes and garlic, rice and beans in coconut milk and Christophine, a Caribbean squash cooked in island species. After cooking, enjoy the meal you helped prepare with Daria and Michael at their dining table. Your meal concludes with a dessert such as passionfruit mousse or stewed seasonal fruit and ice-cream. Your experience includes a glass of Daria's signature island rum punch!

Notes: Pick-up and drop-off from Roseau port or hotel is included in the cost of your experience. Please include the name and address of your hotel when making your booking. Daria can accommodate vegan, vegetarian, lactose free and gluten free diets so please let her know if you have any dietary restrictions when booking your Roseau cooking class.

Wow!!! What an incredible experience this was.The hostess Husband very Knowledgeable about the island picked us up from the peir and drove us to there Home..First the location of there home is so stunning with breath taking views. There fully functional outdoor kitchen was Priceless.. The cooking class was a fantastic hands on experience with a full description of all local ingredients used . Ingredients were mostly grown in the hostess garden. Our time was spent cooking, talking , laughing and learning followed by eating this fabulous meal jointly cooked. We would definitely recommend this experience to everyone. The hostess is a natural teacher with much talent in her craft. There was also a small store area where we selected the ingredients used and grown that was available to purchase for the recreation of this delicious meal.
