Your host Tania
Tania is an agronomist and food safety specialist who loves singing, playing the piano, and traveling. Her parents may also be part of your Traveling Spoon experience and will help with the cooking and hosting. Her father is a former butcher and is very serious about his meats! Now he is retired and grows fruits and vegetables in their family garden on the outskirts of Beirut. He also enjoys making his own arak (the Lebanese national alcoholic drink made from grapes and anise seeds). Most of the produce for the home comes from the garden and is local, fresh and organic. Tania’s mother is a home cook who has been cooking traditional meals for the family all her life using family recipes. They are a family who enjoys gardening, talking about food, cooking and eating together. "Tania is a fantastic online teacher, patient and making sure that we could follow along. It is so much better than just working from a recipe to be able to cook simultaneously with the chef and get feedback and suggestions."

"Tania (and her mom!) was such a sweet hostess! You could tell it was just as important to her that we understand her culture, as it was that we understand her food (which was so yummy!) We had such a wonderful time with her and can't wait to take her falafel class next!"

"This was great way for 15 of us in 7 different bubbles, 2 countries, 3 time zones to interact and share an experience. Not everyone had the same skill level in terms of cooking, so the results varied but we all had fun and a delicious product at the end. Tania ( the culinary guide) and her mom ( the actual cook) were a team. It was a perfect way to engage with loved ones during this pandemic."

"Making a 30th birthday feel fun and festive during the pandemic is quite a feat, but Tania succeeded! She thoughtfully added a traditional Lebanese cake to the menu and had a candle on hand as we sang happy birthday. Tania lead our group of seven (in three time zones!) through three delicious Lebanese dishes- sharing her mom’s secret spice mixture and techniques to perfect our cutting! She mixed her experience and knowledge with humor to create an enjoyable afternoon for all. Tania is funny, witty and patient. She did an excellent job of keeping the spirit light while ensuring everyone was keeping up. Tania was quick to respond to inquiries about logistics and substitutions. Thank you Tania for a fantastic day!"

Heather Patton 19 May 2020
"Our Lebanese Mezze course with Tania and her mother taught us so many new things (like the perfect ratio of spices for the tabbouleh)! We loved the flavor of our homemade mezze, and all three recipes were simple and straightforward to prepare with Tania and her mother guiding us step by step. Tania also gave us her best tips for the presentation of each dish. And my youngest son got to be the "artist," following Tania's instructions for decorating our full bowls with paprika and fresh herbs. We would love to learn more recipes from Tania!"

"I throughly enjoyed my cooking class with Tania and her mother. The recipes were simple but delicious with hints and tips that made the flavours and look of the dishes very authentic. And it was great to chat too!"
