Rafi and Lela are a lovely couple who come from large families (Lela has 32 in her immediate family!) that enjoy food, cooking and partying! Rafi learned to cook from his father and everyone in Lela's family is passionate about cooking or barbecuing. An attorney by profession, and the former head of the kitchen at the VA, Rafi and Lela respectively enjoy hosting large private parties and events at their home. They recently converted their house with a stunning view of the mountains and sea into a B&B. They are excited to host guests for a Puerto Rican cooking class in their home and share their culture and cuisine with them! Their beautiful countryside home is located about 40 minutes from San Juan or Ponce by freeway, (10 minute countryside drive from Cayey freeway exit 39 to destination). Please note there is no Uber service to and from the property.
Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.
Cooking experience: (2-6 guests) Join Rafi and Lela for a Puerto Rican cooking class near San Juan. They will welcome you into their countryside home (and B&B) in Cayey with a ginger or lavender lemonade or passionfruit mimosa! Enjoy your drink on the deck as you take in the stunning view of the mountains and sea that surround you. With a basket in hand, gather vegetables and herbs from the garden that you will use for your seasonal Puerto Rican cooking class. In their kitchen, Rafi and Lela will teach you the secrets of cooking traditional Puerto Rican comfort food from recipes passed down through generations in their families. You will learn to cook three dishes made from local and seasonal Puerto Rican ingredients. Your cooking lesson lasts about an hour and a half after which you will sit down to enjoy your meal at their communal kitchen table or dining room or outside, weather permitting.

Wow!! As the son of a Puerto Rican chef, the food was top-notch! Our family of three booked this cooking class with Rafi and his wife, Lela, and it was such an amazing experience! First off, their hospitality is through the roof. They are so welcoming and generous to open up their home and their lives with their guests. Both of them are passionate about what they do and you can tell this is something they love to do. Not only that, but their home sits atop a mountain ridge with beautiful surroundings. As for the food and the cooking - they really focused on sharing the ins and outs of what to do versus doing the cooking themselves. From having you mince vegetables so you can make your own sofrito, showing you how to mash tostones, and making a delicious rice—the entire experience is hands on and so much fun. All three of us, including our 14-year old daughter, loved this and it will certainly be the highlight of our trip. We cannot recommend this enough and we’ll definitely be booking it again on our next trip to PR!- rick July 04, 2026
