Meet Angelina (Ornos)

Angelina's interest in cooking was sparked as a teenager as she watched her grandmothers and mother cook in their Greek kitchen. Angelina has studied sociology, worked as a journalist, published a magazine and taught media but her biggest passion remains food. She has traveled around the world and it was during her time living in South Korea in the 90's that she started offering Greek cooking classes. An active bilingual food blogger, member of Slow Food International and a member of the Mykonos Gastronomic Club, Angelina is excited to share forgotten Greek and Myconian recipes featuring locally produced and seasonal ingredients with her guests. One of her passions is discovering traditional island cheeses, small wineries, and microbreweries and she loves sharing her insider knowledge with her guests.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

Cooking experience: (10-15 guests) Ride aboard a traditional Greek wooden boat (kaiki) for 45 minutes to a beautiful non-touristy destination for your authentic private Greek cooking demonstration and meal. Depending on the winds, you may be whisked away to a sandy beach on Rhenia next to the ancient island of Delos (a UNESCO World Heritage site) or sail along the south Mykonos beaches which are more protected from the winds. You will enjoy your meal on your kaiki that has a shaded dining area that will be docked where your cooking demonstration will be conducted.

During this cooking demonstration, your host Angelina will show you how to prepare and serve a couple of delectable Myconian and Greek meze (small plates) and how to pair them with the typical greek drink, the ouzo. This is a wonderful way to experience a serene, spectacular beach location away from the crowds of Mykonos and feel the ancient glory of the area! With a glass of ouzo in hand, you will watch as she prepares 2-3 meze that you will feast on later. Your meal will include additional typical Greek dishes Angelina will have prepared in advance. Your menu may include dishes such as mostra (Mykonian bruschetta), keftedakia (Greek meatballs), tzatziki (yogurt and cucumber dip), melitzanosalata (Greek baba ganoush), gigandes (giant beans in a tomato sauce), Greek salad with watermelon and shrimp saganaki (shrimp in a fresh tomato sauce topped with feta cheese).

Bring your own gear or borrow from the boat and feel free to swim and snorkel in the beautiful waters before your meal. You will return via the kaiki to the Ornos port after your culinary adventure!

Notes: Total price is the same for 10 people or fewer. Final destination varies due to meltemi, the north winds of the Aegean but the captain and the crew will ensure that you sail in peace and tranquility enjoying a glass of cool Greek wine, as you land on a southern beach of Mykonos or on Delos island. Please share your passport details ahead of time so your host can provide them to the boat captain before you embark.

The cost for a child is the same as for an adult as the experience cost includes the cost of the boat ride. This experience is not suitable for children 0-12 years.

Wine/beer and ouzo are included in the cost of your food experience.
