Meet Ariadna and Antonia

Ariadna, also known as Ari has been hosting cooking classes with her grandmother, Antonia, in their family home since 2019. After studying translation abroad, Ari returned to Madrid to join her grandmother, the most-loving expert cook in the family, to host travelers who are curious to learn about Spanish cuisine and culture. They are excited to welcome new people to their beautiful city and share all about the history, culture and lifestyle.

When we asked Ari why she would like to be a Traveling Spoon host, this is what she had to say, “To me, food is a perfect way of reuniting, celebrating and bringing joy to other people, that's why it's one of my biggest passions.”

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

Cooking experience: (1-6 guests) Experience authentic Spanish culture with a hands-on cooking class in Madrid hosted by Ari and her grandmother, Antonia, in their beautiful family apartment. This unique home cooking experience offers the rare opportunity to visit a local home, connect with a Spanish family, and learn about their traditions, recipes, and everyday life in Madrid. During your approximately 2-hour hands-on Spanish cooking class, you'll learn to prepare traditional Spanish dishes from scratch using family recipes that have been passed down through generations. Depending on the season and your preferences, you might make classics such as paella, Spanish tortilla (Spanish omelet), or gazpacho, while learning authentic cooking techniques and the stories behind each dish. As you cook together, Ari will share family traditions, helpful cooking tips, and his favorite local recommendations for exploring Madrid. After the class, sit down with your hosts to enjoy the homemade Spanish meal you prepared together, accompanied by seasonal side dishes, wine, and dessert. This is more than a cooking class—it's an opportunity to experience genuine Spanish hospitality and share a meal like a local. Menus are seasonal and can often be customized based on your interests. If there are specific Spanish dishes you'd like to learn, please let Ari and Antonia know when booking. Ari and Antonia are happy to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free diets with advance notice. Please share any dietary restrictions when making your reservation. The experience takes place in a family apartment on the second floor of a traditional Madrid building with no elevator, so guests should be comfortable climbing stairs.

Notes: Important: Please contact your host at least three days before your experience using the contact information provided in your booking confirmation. Your host will share the exact meeting location once you've connected directly. If your host is unable to reach you at least two days before your experience, they reserve the right to cancel the booking so you can receive a full refund.

Fabulous. The grandmother is the sweetest, as is the granddaughter who translated and shared stories with us. It was a fabulous, authentic experience, and the paella and soup were amazing!

This was the HIGHLIGHT of our trip (and we visited Madrid, Sevilla, Toledo, and Barcelona). I could not recommend Ari and her abuelita. They were so welcoming and the food was fantastic. I will cherish this memory forever.
