Diep (pronounced "Yeep") lives with her husband, young baby, and her parents in a typical family home in Danang. She loves to travel and seeks out traditional dishes when she explores a new place, she believes this is the best way to meet locals, hear their voices, and get to know a place. Hosting with Traveling Spoon is a way for Diep to share her passion for her country’s culture, traditions and cuisine with her guests. She looks forward to introducing Vietnamese home cooking to you!
“We welcome you to our family!”
Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.
In-home meal: (2-8 guests) The family’s cooking revolves around the seasons and they visit the market every day to find the freshest produce, meat and seafood. Diep and her family serve home-style central Vietnamese dishes. Your meal will consist of 3-5 dishes, including a soup like canh chua ca (sour fish soup) or a vegetable soup, a main dish of meat or seafood (like her mother’s muc nhoi thit, stuffed squid), stuffed tofu, stuffed bitter melon, and fresh vegetable dishes such as stir-fried morning glory or chayote, crispy tofu in tomato-egg sauce, and rice. End your meal with fresh, seasonal fruit and tea. The menu will vary based on the season.
Cooking experience: (2-4 guests) Join Diep and her mother Loc in the kitchen to learn how to prepare 2-3 dishes in a cooking demonstration. Because Diep has a small home and kitchen, your preparation of the meal may be limited but Diep will do her best to give you some hands-on experience and teach you to prepare her family recipes. The cooking experience will last about an hour before you gather with the family to enjoy the meal together. Diep and her mother may prepare some of your dishes in advance.
Market visit: (2-4 guests) Meet Diep at her home before you take a taxi to Danang's Dong Da market. This is the large, bustling market that sells a wide variety of products, especially fresh seafood. Diep will introduce you to the local produce and show you some of her favorite vendors and, as you explore you might pick up a few ingredients to be used in the meal. You will spend about 45min-1hr at the market before returning to her home to start cooking.

The meal was very good and we ate with her parents and baby. It was fun talking to her and her father about travel and work. She was so pleasant and relaxed, which is very much in tune with the feeling of central Vietnam.

My husband and I had a wonderful time at the private cooking class run by Diep and her mother last week. Diep was waiting for us at the end of her little lane, so we wouldn't get lost after leaving our taxi. It was a really special experience to be in a private Vietnamese home, cooking up a storm! It gave us a real taste of what life is like for the localls. Even Diep's brother got involved, helping us learn the tricks of the trade. I can thoroughly recommend Diep's cooking class.- Paul S July 20, 2024
This was one of our most memorable travel experiences to date. Diep and her mom are amazing hosts who generously welcomed us into their home. We helped them prepare several delicious vegetarian dishes and learned about local Danang culture and cuisine. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an intimate experience with locals.- joseph August 29, 2023
We had an amazing time over for dinner with Diep. This is less of a cooking class and more like helping a friend make dinner for the family. Everybody was so kind and welcoming to have us in their home. We learned a lot more about life in Vietnam than we would have in any regular class. We helped make dinner (probably more like slowed it down haha) while we chatted about life and Vietnam. Diep is such a great host, she is so friendly and well-travelled and was easy to talk to. We were so relaxed that we almost forgot to leave. I would recommend this to anybody visiting Da Nang.- antonym July 31, 2023
If you are person who really want to experiece local food in local house, I really recommand it. This tour is not just cooking class but it’s a great chance to share cultures too. You will be in real local atomsphere. Diep and her family were wonderful. Diep and her mother tried to reply my questions about vietnam cooking, even if I had a lot of questions. Now I’m back to my country, and I tried to do vietnamese cooking by myself looking for the ingredients in Asian market. :) thanks a lot to you!- NorthStar December 18, 2022
Diep and her family were very warm. They allowed me to choose what dishes I want to cook and completely catered the menu to my interests: pumpkin with peanuts, sour fish soup, stuffed squid with minced pork, and lime leaf grilled chicken. I am extremely thankful for their hospitality. I was also amazed by the vegetable and fruit garden. They shared their home-grown jackfruit with me. I think it would be good if transport was included as part of this package and the recipes were shared electronically.- Jing July 18, 2022
