Meet Shane

Shane is a local Barbadian with a passion for mixology, science and travel. Shane made mixology a career after being offered an opportunity to bartend to aid in college payments. Since then, he made his way to the international stage where he is known for the flavors he creates with his well-balanced cocktails. Shane is a bar consultant and travels to experience different cultures and spirits from around the world. He looks forward to sharing the tricks to cocktail-making that he has picked up over the years while introducing you to the flavors and spirits of Barbados.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

Cooking experience: (2-8 guests) Meet your host Shane at Foursquare, one of four rum distilleries on the island. Begin your 1.5 hour mixology class with a quick tour of the sugarcane plantation and distillery to learn about how rum is made from sugarcane; a journey from the field to the table. Next head to the Copper Still bar (or on outdoor bar depending on the weather) to learn to create three different cocktails from scratch. Drinks you might learn to create depending on the season are a twist on the traditional Barbadian rum punch, Corn 'n' Oil, a cocktail made with falernum (local sugarcane liqueur) and a cocktail made with Kola tonic, a local drink accented with spices from the Caribbean. Shane is delighted to share the history of the ingredients used in the cocktails and helps you appreciate the tastes and aromas of local Barbadian spirits. Learn about the techniques and tips involved in making and tasting cocktails as you shake your own cocktails with the help of this expert mixologist. Enjoy your cocktails paired with local snacks such as tamarind balls, sugar cake or guava cheese. Shane is flexible on timing and can host between 10-4:30pm so feel free to customize your timing with him after you book if the 1pm or 3pm time slots don't work for you.

Notes: Please note this is a cocktail-making class, not a cooking class. Even on days that the distillery is closed to the public, Shane can host at the venue. Please contact him directly with any questions.

The class was easy to follow thanks to the clear instructions of Sir Shane. He was passionate about his expertise and was very happy to answer all of our questions. We did not only learn how to make a cocktail, but als learnt about the different kind of rum and the destillery. He also told us how to give your own twist to the cocktails which is very nice to know as this allows me to make even more cocktails! Thank you again!

Afternoon at the distillery! Group of three couples visiting Barbados. We had a great experience with Shane! He had a great personality and was very knowledgeable about his craft. Cocktails were tasty and appealing. Even our friends who don’t prefer rum found them enjoyable. Class included cocktail making and a tour of the distillery with a decent amount of walking. Be prepared to be outdoors.

The best Rum Punch in Barbados!! What an amazing experience. Shane’s knowledge on all things associated with rum made our experience absolutely worthwhile. He makes an awesome Rum Punch that puts the jug rum punch sold all over in the resorts to shame. We will be back!

Beware drink at your pace lol… we also had a tasty sugarcane snack in between so that was cool.
